Fractured - The End (The Final Choice)
Kemi gritted her teeth, the pain of the last 24 hours boiling in her chest. She had been a pawn in Akin’s elaborate scheme to eliminate his enemies, all while keeping her in the dark about her own life. Her family had been dangled as bait, and now she was finally free from the game, but at what cost? Did she truly win, or had she lost everything in the process?
She was escorted back to the police car as Akin continued to scream her name, warning her that she would never find their daughter without him. Kemi refused to believe it. Somewhere deep down, she still felt the faint echo of a mother’s bond, a connection that no amount of manipulation could sever.
As the police officer opened the door for her, she paused. “My daughter,” she whispered. “You said you located her. Where is she?”
The officer’s face softened. “We found her at the location Akin mentioned—safe. She’s at the station waiting for you.”
The relief hit Kemi like a wave. She hadn’t killed anyone, but the choices she had made, the paths she had taken, had still left a trail of destruction. Yet in this moment, the one person she needed to see, to hold, was her daughter.
Hours later, at the police station, Kemi sat in a small room, clutching her daughter’s tiny hand. The little girl had been crying, her small voice trembling as she whispered, “Mummy, I was so scared. Daddy said you wouldn’t come.”
Kemi’s heart shattered again. “I’m here, my love. I’ll always be here.”
The door creaked open, and the officer entered, holding a file. “We’ve got everything we need, Mrs. Awosika. Akin’s confession is airtight, thanks to your recording. His reign is over.”
Kemi nodded absently, her mind replaying the events over and over. Each moment, each choice, had brought her to this point. But now, even though Akin was going to prison, there was no going back to the life she once knew.
“Are we free now, Mummy?” Tola’s voice broke through her thoughts.
Kemi knelt in front of her daughter, brushing the hair from her face. “We are, my love. We’re free.”
But as she stood up and looked out the window of the police station, the sun shining down on the world outside, she wondered if she could ever truly be free. Could she escape the mental prison Akin had built around her, the shattered fragments of a life she no longer remembered? Could she rebuild, knowing that she had been a pawn in the darkest game imaginable?
Her reflection in the glass stared back at her, fractured and fragmented, much like her memories. The road to healing would be long and uncertain, but with her daughter by her side, she knew she had something to fight for.
Kemi turned away from the window and walked out of the station, holding Tola’s hand. The city seemed quieter now, the chaos of the last day fading behind her. She had survived, but she wasn’t the same person who had woken up that Sunday morning, confused and terrified.
As they stepped into the sunlight, Kemi realized that healing wasn’t about finding all the answers—it was about learning to live with the pieces she had left. And for the first time in 24 hours, she felt the stirrings of hope.
