Chapter 2: Whispers in the Moonlight

The oppressive silence that followed Inspector Adegoke's announcement hung heavy in the air. Each sibling exchanged hesitant glances, searching for signs of guilt or fear in the others' eyes. Deji, ever the politician, cleared his throat. "Surely, Inspector, you can't be suggesting any of us would harm our own father?"

"My investigation leads me where the evidence takes me, regardless of family ties," Adegoke countered, her gaze unwavering. "Now, if you'll all indulge me, I'd like to hear your individual accounts of the last time you saw the Chief."

Yinka, her voice tight with emotion, spoke first. She recounted finding her father in his study late the previous night, engrossed in a heated phone call. He'd seemed agitated, she claimed, but hadn't divulged the subject. Deji, however, contradicted her story, stating that he'd last seen the Chief in the library, his expression calm and composed.

Ayo, his voice barely a whisper, revealed that he'd argued with his father earlier that day, their disagreement stemming from the Chief's disapproval of Ayo's unconventional research pursuits. Moji, tears streaming down her face, confessed to a tearful exchange with her father, sharing her anxieties about her struggling acting career.

The twins, Taiwo and Kehinde, offered little new information, claiming they'd spent the evening together, engrossed in a game of Ayo. Their identical appearances and synchronized responses made it difficult to discern individual truths.

As the night wore on, the initial shock began to morph into suspicion. Yinka's sharp questions targeted Deji's ambition, hinting at a potential power struggle. Deji countered, accusing Yinka of manipulating the family business for her own gain. Ayo's quiet demeanor masked a simmering resentment, his words veiled threats directed at his father's disapproval.

Moji, amidst her sobs, revealed a cryptic message she'd received shortly before the Chief's death, mentioning a hidden truth that could shatter the family. The twins, their youthful facade cracking, hinted at witnessing a heated argument between their father and an unknown visitor earlier that night.

With each revelation, the tapestry of the Chief's life unraveled, revealing hidden threads of jealousy, ambition, and long-held grudges. Inspector Adegoke, a silent observer, meticulously noted their inconsistencies and emotional outbursts, building a mental map of the family's complex dynamics.

As the first rays of dawn painted the sky with hues of orange and purple, the siblings retired to their chambers, the weight of suspicion heavy on their shoulders. The air thrummed with unspoken accusations, and the hunt for the truth had only just begun.
